EU's world-first AI legislation takes another important step forward

On the 14th of local time, the European Parliament passed the EU's draft negotiating mandate for the Artificial Intelligence Bill with 499 votes in favor, 28 votes against and 93 abstentions. The draft text shows that the European Parliament has made changes to the previous version, such as in how to define artificial intelligence, further clarifying the high-risk artificial intelligence scenarios, while the version also retains the important content of the previous bill, including the prohibition of the use of artificial intelligence technology in biometric surveillance, as well as the transparency of the disclosure of generative artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT and other issues.
